Introduction
Ergonomics as a science and practice has been the object of extensive reflection and discussion. As an emerging science, its ranking in the classification of sciences is still undefined, due to its multidisciplinar character and the difficulty of defining boundaries.
However, its objective (situated human activity), the knowledge area it explores and the methodology it applies clearly defines Ergonomics . At a practical level, its objective is to optimize the interactions between the human being and the other elements of the systems . This guide the application of the method supported by the knowledge of the human being in action.
A definition of Ergonomics staded by the International Association of Ergonomics (scientific area centered on the understanding of the interactions between the human being and the other elements of a system, as well as a profession that applies the theories, the principles, the data and the methods to optimize human well being and the general system's performance) places it at a scientific and practical level. This fact makes us wonder about the training of the actors for this new profession.
United by the same language, these Countries Officially Speaking the Portuguese Language collaborate, at present, in various privileged cooperation areas. It is towards a unity at once conceptual and pragmatical that the dissemination of Ergonomics and its practice, as well as the resulting reflection, can represent a starting point in this congress . At the same time, the development and consolidation of the research and the profession for those who already endorse the teaching of Ergonomists can be reached .
With the purpose of promot ing Health and well being for the populations, emphasizing the right not to be excluded, Ergonomics integrates theoretical and practical contents that will establish the communication and debate areas in this congress and will be open for the presentation of papers and conferences. This time, the Madeira Island , with all its beauty and excellent climate, will be the scenario for this encounter, with several routs crossing the Atlantic ocean.
